Show me the money!

So, I am quite certain that my favorite pastime nowadays is fantasizing about winning the powerball. I pass the powerball sign no less than twice a day. I see the nice shiny big numbers smiling at me, taunting me, telling me to go waste a couple dollars on a snowballs chance in hell. But no matter what the number is at I always think of the things I would do with the money. Me and Kory LOVE this conversation. We have had it a million times and it really never gets old. Even though it is kind of a tease to always plan it out because the chances are slim, it's still fun.
This past week the powerball was up to 220 million. 220 million!! So we were basing our whole entire "what would we do if we won" conversation off winning that. So if you won the 220 million and you were the only winner and you took the lump sum you would end up with 70 million. Because they take the 40% off the 220 because you took the lump sum, but lump sum is smarter than the getting paid every month BS. Then, after you take the lump sum they take about another 40% or so for taxes. Leaving you with around 70 million that you would never have to pay taxes on again. EVER! 70 million to just do whatever you want with. Nuts, right? I mean let's put it this way...me and Kory only make 1 million in about 12 years of us both working. And that's a million before taxes. And that's twelve years that you have to live on and pay bills so you of course will never see that one million dollars. I can't even wrap my head around 70 million. We of course decided step 1 is to quit our jobs. We both don't love our jobs and in fact Kory almost despises his. So see ya later jobs! Then from there is where the fun begins. Here's the list of things we would do with our money that we will never win:
1) Jobs...DUNZO.
2) Trips. Before I would even wanna think about the other stuff I would need a trip to celebrate. Me and Kory would take one alone to have our alone time. Then, I would take a big family trip wherever everyone wanted to go...of course all expense paid by me and Kory. Then a friend trip. Cause that would be the best way to go out with a bang. I would tell my friends wherever in the world they wanted to go we would go and they wouldn't have to pay a dime. Also, good thing I don't have a lot of friends...ha. jk...
3) Split up the money with the family. Me and Kory would decide on a number to give to his family and likewise for mine. Not sure what we came up with, but it was enough for them to retire and more. We both would tell our family to split the money between the rest of the family. That's where things get messy. Do you give your cousins and aunts and everybody the same amount across the board? Or do you not give money at all and just pay off houses and cars? Really not sure how to go about this one. Same with friends. I know I would want to care of my family and friends for sure, and so would Kory. Just not sure what way is best. I can say that I know the friends that I could give money to and it'd be fine and the ones that I would just be best buying them a house and calling it a day. But they all would most definitely be taken care of the max!
4) Build a house. Not some over the top mansion or anything crazy. Just a nice big house with an awesome pool and movie theater room and wine cellar...that's on a nice golf course to make Kory happy. And also an interior decorator. So it can look exactly how I want it without me having to do it. Cause I'm what we call LAZY when it comes to that kind of stuff.
5) Cars, boat, beach house. I mean even after all the money we would have spent, we would invest a lot. So we would be making money off our money, which would be a lot because so much is being invested. Therefore, nice cars, nice boat, and beach house are a must. Got to have a place to have awesome parties. So why not have an awesome party on our awesome yacht?
6) Giving back. Now here is where I would be torn. As important as tithing to the church is, I would want to do something bigger. I'm not sure if tossing 7 or so million at a church is satisfying enough. I would almost want to start my own charity or something. Just having that much money to be able to help people I would want to make sure I did it in the most impactful way. (impactful even a word?)
I would just really want to change peoples lives for the better. There's just something about helping people that truly need it that is far more satisfying than how you feel in your mercedes. (even though mercedes rock).
The best part would also be to continue to be able to help people. Charities, non-profits, people on the street, kids in Africa...anything. Cause we forever would have money to be able to do that.

That's just part of our list. We have all kinds of things mapped out. It's kind of crazy. I think the most exciting part is just that us, our family, and closest friends would also never have to worry about money again. And we sure as heck would all be debt free and looking oh-so-fly.

I am honestly not one of those people who think money buys happiness. Because you are sadly mistaken if you think that's the case. I just think that money is something you need whether you like it or not and not having to worry about it is something that can be very freeing. Doors are open that weren't open before. I would love to open a wedding venue/event place. It would be fun. But the risk of me getting a loan from a bank and the place possibly tanking and me being bankrupt doesn't sound fun. For me the risk of failing and owing a million dollars to the bank isn't worth it to me. But having that much money from a lottery you really have nothing to lose trying out a business venture!

But, sadly. Chances are slim of winning the powerball. Even slimmer of winning the powerball that high up in the triple digits. Still fun to pretend!
